Course Overview
Our Introduction to Beekeeping class will provide a brief overview of beekeeping practices. The class is scheduled on either Saturday, March 2 or Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 9 AM to 4 PM. The course includes a hands on basic demonstration on how to open and examine a hive. The all-day class will present in-depth information for beginning beekeepers. The class includes a live demonstration showing how to open and examine a hive. There will be a followup field day in May (5/4/19, $30) to cover additional topics. You can sign up during the beekeeping class!

Products of the Hive - Honey, wax, pollen and propolis
Apiary Locations & Pollination
Beekeeping Equipment
Obtaining Bees - Swarms, nucs, full colonies
Seasonal Management of Honey Bee Colonies
Pests, Predators, and Diseases - Nosema, Varroa and Tracheal mites, American foulbrood, Chalkbrood, wax moth, ants
In-hive Demonstration Harvesting Honey Tips for Aspiring Beekeepers
A Bee Book is included with registration
Registration from 8:30 to 9:00 AM
Bring a beekeeping veil & hat if you want to participate in the open-hive demonstration. A limited number of suits and veils
will be available to borrow.
